HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I was checking my disk and turns out my HDD is failing.

I was wondering how to replace (if I can) my HDD with an SSD, and what kind of SSD I should get.

Thanks, Rybo.
(p.s The warranty is long gone because it was manufactured in 2016.)

OK. As @banhien stated, you can use any 2.5" SATA3 drive to replace the 2.5" HDD in the notebook.  You can choose of your desired capacity.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E1T0B-AM/dp/B078DPCY3T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=860+evo...

On page 31 of service manual you can see how to replace the drive:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05122652

While you have the PC open you can check if the M2 slot is present on the motherboard for a possible future upgrade.

You will need to install the OS on the SSD either by using recovery drive, migrating an image or using Windows media you can download from Microsoft site:

Hope it helps,

David

@Ryanborambo

I don't know what is your machine but any standard 2.5" SDD should work. Please use Samsung 860 EVO series or Crucial MX500 series.

Nearly all 2.5" SSD's have thickness of 6.5mm or 7mm, You need to know your machine, it may use 9mm or 9.5mm HDD therefore you need a spacer or frame otherwise the screws won't line up.

I know Crucial supplies that frame with their products.

Regards.
