A number of years ago I did a clean install of windows 10 on my laptop since it wouldn’t install windows 10 any other way at that time.
After doing so my laptop experienced many problems, from cmos reset error every restart to dvd/cd drive not working, random blue screens as well as hdmi port having power but not displaying.
Years later I managed to download drivers to make the pc more stable but never got the dvd/cd drive working again or the hdmi port.
Was hoping to see if a BIOS update would fix this such as the BIOS F.43 Rev.A stating:
Fixes an issue which causes the system to display a warning message when the windows 10 operating system is manually installed. Corrects the FCCID of the wireless LAN card information. Fixes an issue where the BIOS does not update properly when the windows updates method is used to update the BIOS.
OR if I am able to find an older BIOS to run that might fix my issue.
I also noticed there’s a few more fixes such as F.77, F.78 and F.79 before only offering security updates.
any idea if a certain BIOS might fix my issue?
Dvd/cd does not show in device manager even when hidden is shown. And the laptop tries to project and the hdmi port obviously is working because I have a powered light up hdmi. (The hdmi does work on other devices)
MAIN POINTS:
Should I upgrade/downgrade BIOS in attempt to fix the issue using windows 10
or
Should or could I just revert back to windows 8(thought it was 7 but hp says 8)? So that I can regain my system functionality?
Please let me know and or help!
I added it above but incase it isn’t included:

Both a bump and what research I have done on the topic so I can hopefully get a more educated opinion on what to do:

This issue is not a BIOS issue!!
The issue for me is resolved.
It was an issue with a corrupted Registry.
Here are the steps i followed to fix the issue:
1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator.
2. Copy/type the following and enter
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
3. Reboot the system
My DVD drive and HDMI port was then automatically recognized.
I found the fix in a series of threads from 2015.
Your laptop HAS NOT reached it’s “SERVICE LIMIT,” do not allow anyone to tell you these problems are because your laptop is old, it is a problem that HP never fixed.
Thanks for the lack of help HP support.
I hope this helps someone in the future to avoid throwing away a perfectly functioning device.
