Hello, can anyone explain why my old, cheap HP 15 laptop has better movie picture quality than my much newer & more expensive HP 17 laptop when connected to my HD TV - HDMI to HDMI? I don't think it's the cable.
I've tried the laptops HDR settings & the picture settings on the TV... it's driving me mad.
Thank you in advance.

Strange but I'll answer my own question... just in case anyone else has the same issue.
Through trial & error I found the solution, while connected to TV go to laptop settings;
System > Display > Advanced display > click on; Display adaptor properties for Display 1
Then click on; List all modes > 1920 x 1080, True Colour (32 bit), 60 Hertz
It should have aligned both displays to very similar modes & you should see an improvement of picture quality on your TV. If not, at the top of the Advanced display page > select Display 2 (your TV) & follow the above steps.

If you're experiencing poor picture quality when connecting your HP 17 laptop to your TV using HDMI, there are a few possible causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check the HDMI cable: Ensure that the HDMI cable you are using is in good condition and properly connected at both ends. Try using a different HDMI cable if possible to rule out any cable-related issues.
Adjust display settings on the laptop: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" (or "Graphics properties" or similar). Make sure the resolution is set to match the native resolution of your TV. You can also try adjusting the refresh rate to see if it improves the picture quality.
Update graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the HP support website or the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your laptop model.
Try a different HDMI port: If your TV has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting to a different port to check if the problem persists. Some ports may have better compatibility or signal quality than others.
Test on a different TV or monitor: Connect your laptop to a different TV or monitor with HDMI input to see if the issue is specific to your TV. If the picture quality improves on another display, it could indicate a problem with your TV rather than the laptop.
Check TV picture settings: Adjust the picture settings on your TV to ensure they are optimized for HDMI input. Look for settings such as "HDMI mode," "Picture mode," or "Input settings" and experiment with different options to see if it makes a difference.
Try a different laptop: If possible, connect a different laptop or device to your TV using the same HDMI cable to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem lies with the laptop or the TV.
Contact support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be worth contacting HP support or the manufacturer of your TV for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific troubleshooting steps or advice based on your laptop and TV models.
Remember to always handle cables and devices with care and ensure they are securely connected to avoid potential signal degradation or loose connections.
