I want to add a startup ssd on my hp envy 17t-j000. I plan to install 1T mechanical hard disk in the 2nd sata port, ssd in the first sata port , I dont know whether the BIOS can identify 1Tmechanical hard disk in in the 2nd sata port?

Hi,
There is no actual limit to capacity. The limit will come from thickness of the drives. Your PC supports max 9.5mm thick drives which will limit the mechanical hard drive capacity to 2TB. These PCs can be configured when bought to 2x2TB drives.
You need to make sure that you have the hard drive cable and bracket for the second drive (or you will need to purchase).
Hope it helps,
David
