Hi @Stahlreich,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to the upgrading the computer to an SSD and also installing a DVD drive.I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you check the service manual for the supported list of SSDs and DVD drives?
- Did you check the product specs of the computer?
For a start, please try these steps:
- Please check the product specs of the computer from this link: http://hp.care/2v8A6hj
- Service and maintenance guide link: http://hp.care/2v8sPOe
- The service manual link is like the Holy Bible. It gives authentic information that has been tested by HP for this computer.
- The good news is that both an SSD and a DVD drive can be installed on the computer going by the service manual.
- Also, the service guide gives step by step instructions on how to replace the SSD and the DVD drive.
- It gives a list of SSDs and DVD drives with part numbers that have been tested by HP and we can vouch here that these will work. Other SSDs or DVD drivers are not tested by HP. I would suggest that you contact a Local Best Buy or Staples technician or any other technician before proceeding with the upgrade so that everything is a smooth sail without compatibility issues.
- HP does not recommend upgrades but as you are technically inclined by check with a local technician before proceeding with it.
For SSDs please check pages 96, 2, 3, 18, 23, 53,54 and 55 for complete assistance.
SSD capacity and part number
- 512 GB -763008-017
- 256 GB 865902-017
- 128 GB 827560-048
For DVD drives please check pages 33,49,3,4,5,6,7,19,20,23 and 24 for complete assistance on how to replace a DVD drive. It gives you the part numbers supported by this model also.
It is recommended to stick to these part numbers for both the SSD and DVD drive.
To order the parts please visit this link: http://hp.care/2tp77rQ which is the HP part store link and follow the on-screen instructions to order them.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

DavidSMP Many thanks for help.
Your advise very helped me!
I disassemble notebook (a little difficult) and with surprise to see M.2 slot. Why information about inner slots not present in product description? Previously I thinked buy Optibay caddy and 2.5 inch SSD, but decided first disassembly notebook. In the end, I bought and installed M.2 Plextor S2G 128GB [PX-128S2G]. Work perfect with Windows 10 x64 (installed on SSD) with SSD+HDD configuration.

Stalreich, can you please confirm that both M.2 SSD and SATA 2.5" drives could be installed simultaneously without using additional trays\options\etc?
I can't tell even after reading disassembly manual for this product. By looking at the pictures it looks like M.2 SSD has to take place of HDD and also require purchase of 2 optional items M.2 tray and connector board.

partof Here you can look inside notebook: https://yadi.sk/i/LGzSgnfC3MP9Wu or here https://yadi.sk/d/-r3_R_fp3M9wQu
Yellow ellipse: M.2 slot for 2280 disk. Red ellipse: I think this clamps for cables to daughter plate with DVD SATA slot in another version notebook. Here https://yadi.sk/i/Vp9-BCf13MPBjK Device and Disk managers screenshot. All work without any optybay.
