My hp 15-cx0058wm Pavilion laptop, 18 months old, just literally blew up. I'm wondering if I can repair it. I had the power cord plugged in (yes, the original OEM HP power supply), and was starting up the laptop. It was under the heavy-load boot-up portion where it's loading up the Windows apps and the desktop, then suddenly an audible "pop", the whole laptop shut off with display, and also 2 puffs of smoke rose from near the power input.
I opened the laptop and took out the motherboard expecting to see obvious signs of burning and I do not see anything obvious. I'm wondering if the motherboard is repairable or if these things are too integrated to be able to repair something like this. A replacement motherboard is $200ish on eBay, which doesn't seem worth it for this laptop. I may as well put that money toward a new system.
Is this repairable?
I have had nothing but trouble with HP laptops, especially with overheating and noisy fans. To have an expensive gaming laptop die in 18 months is ridiculous.
