HP 15-ef0020ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can someone please tell me if my HP 15-ef0020ca (purchased in Canada) can support a 32 RAM and >1TB SSD upgrade based on the CPU, motherboard, number of slots, etc.

Current Specs:

AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U (2.1 GHz base clock, up to 3.7 GHz max boost clock, 4 MB L3 cache, 4 cores)

AMD Integrated SoC

16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)

1 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

I have already read over the maintenance and service manual and it said 16GB is the maximum and the two slots are "not customer accessible or upgradeable."   But the same manual also doesn't talk about a 1TB SSD configuration.   So

the manual content doesn't seem consistent.  From my understanding hardware upgrades is really more about if the CPU and motherboard can handle it, and what does "not customer accessible or upgradeable" even mean?

I tried talking to 4 different HP tech/sales reps today and received conflicting answers from all of them, ranging from the laptop can support a 32GB upgrade to all Canadian HP non gaming laptops have soldered RAMs.  As a new HP owner I find the company support very disappointing and I hope the user community can provide better answers.

Thanks for your help in advance!

1. RAM: It has 16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB) now and supports  32GB max. You can use the following compatible RAM (will run at 2400MHz)

2. STORAGE: It has  1 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD now. The series does not have dual storage options. You can only replace 1TB with 2TB or 4TB (some vendors now have 4TB on single sided 2280 form factor.

The manual may be published before building machines or at the time HP rolling out the first lot of the series.

>>>>  not customer accessible or upgradeable

That simply means you can do it yourself but any problem during warranty due to your upgrade, you may loose warranty cover.

Regards.
