15M-bp111dx

Hi there. I am a computer repair tech. A customer brought a nice looking, silver 15M-bp111dx laptop for me to have a go at. He said one of the hinges broke and its causing a problem with his display. I couldn't even imagine what I found when I opened this laptop to see what I could do. The hinge let loose on the interior portion of the display. It seems to be frozen up now. Evidently someone opened or shut the display while it was in this condition and it actually ripped! the lower corner on the screen. It ripped like a piece of fabric. Well, it is a touchscreen......So, as I am looking up parts and getting together a proposal, which basically involves replacing the case, the display and hinges, it comes up to about $700.00! The only part of it I will keep would be the motherboard and memory. Was this covered in some way by warranty? Yes, I know, that has expired, but what kind of junk is this? I mean the laptop itself can still be used and powered up, but this display is fried and it is the fault of a bad hinge/screw combination. Do you offer any type of cost sharing or would you provide the needed parts so I can salvage this for him. This was not a cheap machine. It was never taken out of his home, used basically to check e-mail and order off Amazon. It was not dropped, or loaned out to anyone. No weird accident. Just opened it up one day and bang! Surely you don't manufacture crap like this for the public. Please contact me and help me to take care of this. I can send pics, serial numbers, owner info. Thank you, Randy E. of Randy's Computer Repair Service

Kumar, thanks for your response. Looks like I am out of luck. It is a shame the way this was designed, as there looks to be some engineering issues with the hinge/display/case assembly. I can observe the flaws with my own eyes. That being said, my customer and I are going to "create" an All in One out of this thing, as it still works great, just troublesome to use as it was originally designed.

Using 2 sheets of plexi-glass, some stand-offs, liberal connector reengineering and maybe a little luck, I am going to frame and box the mother board, connect to a touchscreen monitor I have lying about, utilize as much of the stock components as I can (speakers, USB ports, etc) then fasten the new case to the monitor....And voila! A custom All in One the likes we may never see again. I thank you again for your stern response, but I will have to take the side of my customer, who claims it was not traumatized in any way. We both feel HP has let us down so I will be steering him towards other, better made products in the future. Good day my friend, Randy Evans , dba Randy's Computer Repair in sunny Topeka Kansas

@rando4, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand your concern. It looks like the Notebook was damaged or dropped. The display is completely damaged. It's not just the hinge.

This damage is beyond repair and has to be replaced.

The factory warranty will not cover damages as such unless you have an accidental warranty purchased on the product.

You may reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
