HP 17-bs024na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

With the help of this forum I upgraded the RAM to 8GB and the hard disk to 2TB, which gave some much-needed breathing space. Unfortunately this has done nothing for the speed. Is it feasible to upgrade the CPU (Intel Celeron N3060 @1.6GHz), or is it simpler to buy a more powerful notebook?

Hi:

The only way to upgrade the processor would be to replace the motherboard with one listed in your notebook's service manual that may come with a better processor.

Personally, I would never consider undertaking such a project because of the cost and complexity.

I would be selling or trading in the notebook and buying one with an Intel i7 core processor.

I was beginning to think so too. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll go with another HP model which has an AMD A6 9225 2.6GHz up to 3GHz.

You're very welcome.

That would be as low as I would go.

I have a 255 G7 notebook I got for very cheap on eBay with the A4-9125 processor, 8 GB of memory, and if it didn't have a SATA M.2 SSD, it would be pretty darn slow.

Bear in mind that the A6 only has one memory slot like your current model, and can only take 8 GB of memory.

I recommend you stick with an Intel platform.  If you want a budget model, get one with an i3 core processor.

One of those would probably be in the same price range as the A6 model you are interested in.

Of course that is completely up to you.

Thanks for the further advice. One memory slot is fine, and I already bought an HP 17-ca0003na (which has an AMD processor) with the bs024na. It is as fast as I would need, but for interest I'll have a look at the Intel range before I decide whether to buy another.
