I have a laptop HP 17-by3613dx the hinge has broken and I can no longer close the unit without doing further damage. Warranty is up so what do I do now.

I dould replace the hinge.

This depends on where the damage is.

If the damage is on the lower part of the notebook, complete disassembly will be required.

If the damage is on the upper part(outer part of the display assemble) if it is available that part must be replaced along with the broken hinge.

If it is just the hinge itself it isn't as difficult, but it still requires a fair amount of disassembly.

I found the specific parts at the PartSurfer result for your laptop.

This can be a daunting repair for someone who has little confidence  in working with delicate parts.

If you aren't comfortable with doing it, you can get a quote for the repair from a shop. That should help you make the decision.
