Hi all
this is call for HELP to all people of good will
I'm envisaging to purchase ca-0013 (with Ryzen 5 & Vega 8, but only 4 GB RAm & Drive 500 GB), I'm dobble-checking few things as to extension capabilty ...
(because of poor information in commercial description on the produc!)
Reading the document HP 17 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide
I found contradictory information :
"memory is non-customer accessible/non-upgradeable" is stated ...
YET a procedure describes how to extend RAM a bit further in the doc ...
??
Could some one manage finally to upgrade / extend the RAM of this model of laptop ?
regards
Franck

We have had HP acknowledge here that it is not really possible to forbid someone on penalty of loss of warranty to upgrade memory, storage or wireless on his/her own laptop. And yet, the procedure is not what it was in the old days when laptop makers provided customer access panels to get at hard drives and memory. Those days are gone. Keep in mind the service manual is not supposed to be for the general public so it is not odd that it says "not customer upgradeable" but at the same time contains instructions to access the memory slot.
You have seen the Manual. You have to remove the rubber "feet" and open the back case to access memory slots. HP would of course prefer that this be done by an authorized technician. However, as long as you do it without damaging anything you can open the case to add memory without losing the warranty. Damage is not covered and obviously HP does not warranty your added parts.
Max memory on this model is stated to be 2 x 8 = 16 gigs of DDR4-2400 and in reality Ryzen models will work with 2 x 16 = 32 gigs.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
