HP- AK001ax
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi I am looking to upgrade my 17.3" HP Model : AK001ax. (2017)

Can't to seem to find details on my laptop.

1) There are 2 RAM slots. DDR4, 2666 Mhz. 1 8GB RAM (factory fitted). What is the Max RAM I can use.

Q) Can I add a 16GB to the other slot making it 24GB.

Q) or put 32 GB (16GB x 2) or just 16GB (16GB x 1). Will 32 be overkill or  advise.

Q)  Can I use a higher 3200Mhz or advise.

2) There is one slot for HDD; currently SATA Disk, 5400 rpm. 1TB.  Think its 2.5" (please confirm)

Q) Do I upgrade to standard SSD or

Q) Upgrade to the NVMe or M.2 SATA with use of SATA adapters cards (Do I need  SATA adapter). Will this again be an overkill as use is normal (no gaming). Just internet and Office.

Q) Will the mother board support the the MB rates of 3000 - 4000 b/s of the faster SSD's.

Q) No reputed brand is selling the SATA adapter cards. It unknown brands. Will it be able to use the gold standard of the more faster SSD's through its bus and then the mother board too can max use the same speed or advise.

I. know its a lot of questions. But just wanting to know my options, if its worth spending  on premium fast SSD  when it will just bottleneck to a low Mb/s that the system is designed for.

Thanks in advance.

@FrankP23

Its specs

        https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05634746

1. RAM: It has 8 GB DDR4-1866 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB) now. You can use same existing RAM to slot 2 to have 16GB max. It does not support more.

        >>>> Can I add a 16GB to the other slot making it 24GB.

         no, 16GB is max

         >>>> Can I use a higher 3200Mhz or advise.

It may accept 3200MHz RAM but will downgrade to 1833MHz

2. STORAGE: It has  1 TB 5400 rpm SATA, which is a 2.5" standard HDD's for notebooks. Looks like it has M.2 slot for SSD, you can add M.2 SATA (not NVMe) SSD upto 2TB to your machine. You don'n need adapter.

  >>>> Will the mother board support the the MB rates of 3000 - 4000 b/s of the faster SSD's.

No, it uses standard SATA 3 speed, HDD or M.2 SATA SSD.

At the end,

  1. (a) your can upgrade to 16GB by adding same existing 8GB to slot 2
  2. (b) You may be able to add M.2 SATA SSD to M.2 slot

Regards.
