HP 17-x000nd
Linux

Hi,
I've had my HP 17-x000nd for quite long. Now I am experiencing problems with the battery. My laptop will only power up with battery cable connected, it seems. Now I'm seeing a battery light pattern. It goes from about 3 seconds red, to about 10 seconds white, to 10, 14, white blinking lights (hard to count, it's fast). In a loop. I'm on Linux Mint, and my battery icon switches from "fully charged" to "0% charged". It does detect that it's charging though.
I am writing this on the very same laptop, it does still work, though last week it sometimes fully shut off for no reason in the middle of playing a game. (the game is pretty heavy for this laptop, to be honest)
I don't know how long this problem has been going on, I saw the lights just now. I'm guessing it's been a week or so, maybe.

I think the battery is dying. Do you have some insights of what I could possibly do?
Greetings

Battery Issue with HP 17-x000nd

It appears that your HP 17-x000nd laptop is experiencing battery issues, as indicated by the battery light pattern and behavior described. Here are some steps to diagnose and possibly resolve the issue:

Check Battery Health:

  • You can use HP's diagnostic tools to check the health of your battery. HP provides utilities that may help you identify if your battery needs to be replaced. While these tools are often Windows-based, similar diagnostics may be available for Linux distributions.

Inspect Battery Connections:

  • Ensure that the battery is seated properly in its compartment and that connectors are secure and free from debris or corrosion.

Power Reset:

  • Perform a power reset by shutting down your laptop, unplugging it, removing the battery (if removable), and holding down the power button for 15-30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power, and start the laptop again.

Update BIOS:

  • Check HP's support website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop model. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve battery detection issues.

Battery Replacement:

  • If the battery health report indicates that the battery is failing, or if the issue persists despite troubleshooting, consider replacing the battery with a new one compatible with your HP 17-x000nd model.
