Hi @Ultra17

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It sounds like you're dealing with a power issue on your HP 17-by4003ca laptop, and you're specifically referring to a reset button on the motherboard labeled with D206 and SW200. Let's break this down.

The button you're referring to could be related to a reset function on the motherboard designed to address some of these issues.

SW200 Button (Reset/Recovery):

  • SW200 is likely a reset button or a CMOS reset jumper.
  • In some laptops, this button is used to reset the motherboard's power management system or to clear BIOS settings. It can help resolve issues like boot failures, power issues, or malfunctioning hardware by clearing settings that may have become corrupted.
  • Resetting the BIOS: If the laptop isn't booting due to BIOS corruption, a reset might help.
  • Power Management Reset: Some laptops use this button to reset the power management circuitry to fix power issues.
  • Hard Reset: In some cases, it can serve as a general hard reset for the system, especially if the laptop is stuck in a non-booting or unresponsive state.

Suggested Steps to Try

Here’s a step-by-step process to address the issue of your laptop not powering on and using the reset button on the motherboard:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the Laptop: Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
  • Remove the Battery: If the battery is removable, take it out. (For many modern laptops, the battery is built-in, so you may not be able to remove it easily.)
  • Press and Hold the Power Button: Hold the power button down for 30 seconds to a minute to discharge any residual power in the system. This helps reset the internal circuitry.

2. Reset the Motherboard (SW200)

  • Locate the Reset Button: If the SW200 button is on the back of the motherboard (you may need to open the laptop up to access it), gently press it using a small tool like a paperclip.
    • Note: Be careful when opening the laptop, as this may void your warranty (if applicable). If you're not comfortable with this step, it's best to seek professional help.
  • Press the Button: Hold down the reset button for a few seconds (usually around 5-10 seconds).
  • Reassemble and Test: After pressing the reset button, reassemble the laptop (if necessary), and try turning it on again.

Next set of steps are mentioned in my post below .

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

3. Check the Power Adapter and Battery

  • Test the Power Adapter: Ensure that the power adapter is functional by testing it with another compatible device or using a multimeter to check the voltage output. If the power adapter is faulty, the laptop may not power on even with a working internal battery.

4. Try Booting Without the Battery

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, try booting it without the battery inserted, using only the power adapter. This can help determine if the issue is related to the battery or the motherboard.

5. Try Booting Into Recovery Mode (If Possible)

  • If your laptop powers on but doesn't boot to Windows, you may be able to boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). To do this:
    • Press the power button to turn the laptop on.
    • Immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until the Choose an option screen appears.
    • From there, you can try options like Startup Repair or System Restore to fix boot issues.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
