Hi @NeneChulo55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing your HP 2000-2b16NR Notebook PC issue. If your CD/DVD drive was previously recognized but no longer appears, here are the most effective steps to troubleshoot and restore it:

1. Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
    • If you see your drive listed, right-click and choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC.
    • If it’s not listed, continue to the next step.

2. Show Hidden Devices

  • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Check again under DVD/CD-ROM drives or Unknown devices.

3. BIOS Check

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Check if the CD/DVD drive is listed under storage or boot devices.
  • If not listed, it may be a hardware issue (loose connection or failed drive).

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

You can run a built-in test:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Component Test > Optical Drive Test.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
