Hi All,
I have an HP 2000 Notebook (Model bf69WM) built in 2012. It was given to me & I'm trying to revive & save it from the landfill.
It originally had Windows 8, but I just installed Linux Zorin as I'd like to play around with Linux. It's pretty laggy so I'd like to upgrade a few things, if possible.
In terms of hardware it has:
- AMD processor (I'm not sure which one)
- 320 GB HDD
- 4GB DDR3 so-dimm
- Ralink RT 5390 wireless card
MY THOUGHTS:
- CPU - I'm guessing I'm stuck with what I have.
- HD - I ordered a 1GB SSD
- MEM - I ordered an 8GB dimm
- WIFI - in my searches I see conflicting info on upgrading this.
Also the battery no longer charges so I might want to replace that as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Larry

Hi, Larry:
The AMD E300 processor your notebook has is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.
Ordering a 2.5" SATA SSD was a good decision.
Ordering an 8 GB memory chip will probably not work.
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 4 GB.
ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online!
But I found this eBay motherboard listing for a motherboard from your model notebook and it only shows one memory slot is available, so that part of the service manual is incorrect.

Your notebook was made at a time when HP was beginning to phase out the BIOS whitelists which block the installation on any model Wi-Fi card from working other than the one that came with your notebook.
No one can tell you if your notebook has the whitelist or not and the only way to find out would be to try installing a different model Wi-Fi card and hope it works.
If you want to gamble some money on a 25%-75% odds-against you bet, I would look for this model Wi-Fi card on eBay:

Hi Paul,
Thank you for replying. I'm a bit confused by your memory comments; it seems you first say, "ordering an 8 GB memory chip will probably not work," then say the service manual is wrong. There is only one slot, so I thought I could replace the 4gb with an 8 gb.

You're very welcome.
The service manual implies that if the max memory is 2 x 4GB, that's the max memory each slot will support, be there one or 2 slots.
Otherwise, the manual would have stated that 2 x 8GB of memory is supported..
I'm not saying that there is no way an 8GB memory chip will work, but the odds are not in your favor.
