Hello to everyone,
my laptop came with 4gb of RAM and i'm looking to add an extra 8GB.
The problem lies with the frequency i should choose (2400Mhz or 2133 Mhz).
- The 'wmic' command outputs 2133 MHz
- Task manager shows 2133 MHz as well
- HP support assistant show 2133 MHz
- CPU-z on 'memory' tab shows NB frequency of 2294MHz and DRAM freq. of 1064MHz
- CPU-z on 'SPD' tab shows DDR4-2400 (1200MHz) by micron technology
- HWiNFO on 'memory modules outputs DDR4-2400 / PC4-19200 DDR4 SDRAM SO-DIMM with clock on 1200MHz but on 'memory' shows actual clock speed of 1064.3, which it also states as my maximum supported clock speed
The only rational conclusion is that although the system supports 2133MHz the laptop came with a 2400MHz memory which runs at 2133 cause of the motherboard limitations?????
If so should i buy 2400 MHz or 2133MHz to put in the other slot? Prices are the same but as i remember from old days when we counted nanoseconds different rams on different slots were a big no-no.
Any help would be greatly aprreciated 😛

The most cost effective solution would be to purchase guaranteed compatible modules.
Remove the original module and install the upgrade pair of guaranteed compatible memory modules.
Purchasing memory modules by matching the specifications can present more issues than you may realize.
Purchasing a pair of identical modules for the upgrade would be best
Mixing modules from different manufacturers or of differing storage capacities can cause a no start or no video scenario.
If the memory bus on the motherboard is 2133 MHz and 2400 Mhz modules are installed, the module(s) will run at the default 2133 MHz.
That is a BIOS/Systemboard default and I suppose you could call it a limitation.
