My battery will not charge while the laptop is powered on. It did when I first got it but I think either Windows Updates or a BIIOS upgrade has broken it. There is a new BIOS version available but I cannot install it as the laptop does not recognise that the power cable is attached.
The laptop will not power on with the battery removed and the AC power cord attached. The battery does however charge up when the laptop is powered off.

Since the battery will charge, you should consider running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility to test the power adapter, battery and system board.
If you do not have it installed, you can download it and either run it from a USB flash drive or the hard disk. See the link below this line.

Unfortunately I am away from my computer at an appointment in the city I do not have the tool to translate the error message on my smartphone. If one of my Expert colleagues has not responded to this thread before I return home, I will let you know what it means.
