Hi,
I recently bought a HP 250 G6, model no. 1WY51EA. This particular model is equiped with a dvd rw drive. I would like to swap the dvd with hdd caddy. Is it possible, or to be precise, will it work as it should with full speed without problems? Could I put an SSD in place of dvd-rw and set it as boot device and load OS from it?
Thanks in advance

Sorry but it does not look like you can do that.
But you can add an SSD.
Click on Solid State Drive.
Your manual here.

Welcome to HP Forum,
Yes, If the optical drive Is removed It will be a SATA Slot. You can use the Slot as Expansion Bay. Ofcouse, the drive can be used for OS.
Refer the below on page 5 for compatible storage drivers,

Hope It helps.:smileyhappy:

Thanks. I am aware of the fact that I can replace a hdd with SATA or m.2 SSD but I am interested in having both SSD and HDD.
I checked the site www.hddcaddy.eu where it is explained that one can simply remove dvd drive and replace it with caddy with a SSD or HDD. It is as simple as that but I am not sure BIOS will recognize it as some manufacturers try to prevent this kind of upgrade (some lenovo laptops have this sata port reserved only for dvd drive so you cannot use a hdd caddy).

@Bharath
Thanks for the prompt answer. That is exactly what I am trying to accomplish. Just like I said in my previous post, my only problem is if BIOS will recognize an SSD in expansion slot. Is this dvd rw connected to SATA 3 port?
I will try to add an expansion slot with an ssd and see what happens. I'll post the results.
Cheers

Of course any new CD is SATA and can be replaced with a Hard drive.
And the BIOS will most always see the drive and can boot from it.
The problem is finding a caddy that fits your laptop.
The CD SATA connector is not the same as the SATA HDD.
IBM and Dell manufactures their own expansion CD caddies, HP not so much.
It will be hard to find one that fits flush. " If it fits at all. "
Good luck,

I'm owner of 250 G6 without CD/DVD, with SSD installed, and looking to add 2nd SSD/HDD.
Free CD/DVD SATA slot is not the same size as SSD/HDD SATA slot on MB, so I see only 2 ways:
1st - If HP is kind enough to provide CD/DVD SATA MB > SSD/HDD expansion board connector.
2nd - get some Caddy for 240 G6, and tune it for size of CD/DVD internal bay, without/removing side panel of Caddy to fit it inside-only. Until then - eMMC is only option to expand storage.

You have a bigger problem. You model doesn't have dvd Sata board connector because it lacks dvd drive. Check the manual that was posted above. You can order it. I checked the dvd drive. It is a standard sata connection. I am able to swap the dvd with hdd caddy but I am not sure of it will work without freezing or any other complications.

You can share the model and seril number of the PC and I will have a check with the resource If I could help you on the precise part details.
Or the below link might help on ordering parts

Thank you for giving the correct clarifications. On the performance part of SSD I had checked with few resources and It says
>If you will be using a SSD and some may require Firmware (that eradicates most the Issue)
Just look out for the Firmware at the first place If face any Issue + The drive should be detected In BIOS
