I’ve a HP 250 G6 and I saw there is a lot of different models so I want to be sure before to buy anything.

I opened it and I can see I’ve another socket for another RAM memory.

I would like to know which quantity maximum I could put and which kind ?

And I would like to know if I can install an M2 card. It seems like, but wich model I can use ?

I installed an SSD Sata 3, My computer will be faster with an M2 card instead of my SSD hard disk ?

Thanks for your answers

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

Maximum memory is stated to be 2 x eight or 16 gigs total of DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM which will "bridge" (downclock) to 2133 speed. Actually it will operate with 32 gigs total if you want to spend that much.

There is likely an M.2 slot but it is only able to work with SATA type M.2. A SATA M.2 performs at the same speed as a 2.5 inch SATA SSD so you have already maximized the performance by installing such an SSD and there is no speed to be gained by getting an M.2 "card".

Memory and M.2 slots circledMemory and M.2 slots circled

If you have opened the laptop you have seen whether an M.2 slot is actually there. In some cases the factory did not actually put the M.2 slot on the motherboard.

Hi,

Since the 250 G6 can come in different configurations, the max amount of RAM depends on the CPU in the machine

So, if you have the 7TH gen Intel core you can max at 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz (2x16GB)

if you have 6th gen core CPU max is 16GB of DDR4 2400MHz (2x8GB)

There are two slots so you could add another 8GB module in the empty slot

Example:

https://it.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-250-g6-%28intel-core-i7-7500u---i5-7200...

On page 45 of service manual, you can see the steps to install the RAM

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05485525

An M2 SATA SSD will not be faster than a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. So, if you have already replaced the Hard Drive with an SSD you will have no performance gain from the M2 SSD. Naturally, different brands of SATA3 SSDs are slower and faster.

Hope it helps,

David

Thank you for your answers really fast. So i forget the idea to buy M2... I've the 7th generation, a Intel Core i5-7200U I've actually 4Gb installed. Can I buy just one of 8 (or 16Gb) or it needs to be install both the same ? And for you, is it really usefull to update to 16 or 32 Gb ? I'm using Linux and Windows 10. playing video game once in a while, but i'm doing more programmmation with visual studio.

Hi

Definitely 16GB will be enough and you buy just one module to add to the one already in the PC.

Hope it helps,

David

thanks. so u mean I can't use the new of of 16Gb AND the one already install ?

Yes.

Personally, I would install another 8GB stick which should be enough for what you are doing.

David

Two others and last questions :

- I think I will take the crucial 8GB but I see there is 2 models DDR4-2666 and DDR-2400. on the notice they talk about 2400 and not 2666. If I take the 2666, this ram gonna run actually at 2666 and not limit at 2400 MHz by my motherboard ?

- Can the one already install (2133MHz 4Gb) and the new one could works together ?

I read some years ago that we have to install two RAM identical. is it right or not at all ?
