HP 250 G7 Notebook PC

Product Details:

  • Product Name: HP 250 G7 Notebook PC

  • Product Number: 1$5E9P4MACJ

  • Serial Number: ##########

  • Processor: Intel i3-1005G1 (10th Gen)

  • Current BIOS: F.48

Problem Description:
I am experiencing issues with memory slot 1 on my motherboard. The laptop originally came with a single 4GB DDR4-2666 RAM module installed in slot 2, while slot 1 was empty.

I purchased two new 8GB DDR4-2666 MHz RAM modules to upgrade to 16GB, but discovered that slot 1 does not detect any RAM modules.

Testing Performed:

I conducted comprehensive testing with both old and new RAM modules:

  1. Existing 4GB RAM in slot 2 → PC powers ON  and PC Boot Up

  2. Existing 4GB RAM in slot 1 → PC  power ON does NOT Boot Up

  3. New 8GB RAM #1 in slot 2 → PC powers ON and PC Boot Up

  4. New 8GB RAM #2 in slot 2 → PC powers ON and PC Boot Up

  5. Either new 8GB RAM in slot 1 → PC  power ON does NOT Boot Up

  6. Both new 8GB RAM in both slots → PC  power ON does NOT Boot Up

Conclusion:

  • All three RAM modules are functional (work in slot 2)

  • Memory slot 1 fails to detect any RAM module

  • I have already cleaned the slot with compressed air, but the issue persists

Request:
Please provide guidance on:

  1. Any BIOS settings that need adjustment

  2. Potential hardware solutions

  3. Whether this requires professional repair

  4. If this is a known issue with this model

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @Mr_Saren_13,

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

It appears you're experiencing issues with the memory slot 1 on your HP 250 G7 Notebook PC.
HP 250 G7 Notebook PC supports memory upgrades; however, there may be considerations that require attention to resolve issues with memory slots or RAM compatibility.

We appreciate you taking extra effort to test each RAM module with both slots to make sure they work correctly.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Update Drivers: As you mentioned the current BIOS version on the device is F.48, please use the below link to update the BIOS to the latest available version F.52

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/hp-250-g7-notebook-pc/24381316

2. Inspect Physical Damage: Inspect the RAM slot for any visible physical damage that might prevent proper installation or connection.

3. Contact HP Support: If slot 1 continues to fail after testing, and you’ve confirmed there’s no physical damage or BIOS-related issues, you may need to contact HP customer support for assistance or consider a motherboard inspection performed by an authorized service provider.

It is always recommended to follow safety guidelines and handle components with care when performing hardware upgrades or inspections.

I hope this helps!

Hello @1603HARRY,

Thank you for your response and the troubleshooting steps.

I have already followed the steps you suggested, but the issue remains unresolved.

  1. BIOS Update: I updated the BIOS to the latest version F.52 as recommended. The memory slot issue persists.

  2. Physical Inspection: I am not a technical expert, but I have performed a thorough visual inspection of the RAM slot to the best of my ability. I cannot see any obvious physical damage, bent pins, or debris.

  3. Contacting HP Support: This has been the most frustrating part. I have tried extensively to get help:

    • I called the support number, but after the IVRS process, I only received a callback request link that fails with an error every time, making it impossible to connect with an agent.

    • Hoping for better service, I even purchased a "3 Month Smart Friend Remote Support Service" from HP. Unfortunately, no support was delivered despite this payment.

    • I also attempted to get help via email, which was forwarded from Md. Raza K to Girsh P, but no resolution was provided.

The evidence strongly suggests a manufacturing defect in memory slot 1, which was present from the beginning and only discovered when I attempted a legitimate upgrade.

Given that all standard troubleshooting has failed and I have been unable to access the support I've paid for, what is the concrete next step to get this hardware issue resolved?

Thank you for your support on the community.

Regards,
Mr_Saren_13

Hi @Mr_Saren_13 ,

I’m truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve experienced, and I appreciate you taking the time to detail the steps you’ve already taken. It’s clear you've made every reasonable effort to get support, and I completely understand how frustrating this situation must be.

Please understand that HP Smart Friend Remove Support Service doesn't provide hardware issue coverage.

  • HP SmartFriend is a remote support / subscription service from HP for consumer devices.

  • The service gives you access to HP-certified agents who can help you with many common technical issues—software setup, virus and malware removal, “how‑to” assistance, connectivity/network setup, OS updates, performance tuning, etc.

  • Support is delivered remotely. This means HP agents use phone, secure remote access tools, or online portals.

Visit the below link to know more about Smart Friend:
