Hello,
I have HP 250 G7 6EC71EA with Inter I5 8265U 8th gen CPU on HP 8533 motherboard and 1 x 8 GB DDR-2666 MHz RAM by SK Hynix.
I have seen several threads with the same question, read the Service Manual and specs page. All give confusing info.
Service manual suggests I can have only 8 Gb max, specs page and pages of Crucial and Kingston suggest only 16 GB for my model, and I've seen threads here that 32 GB can be used but DDR-2400 instead of DDR-2666.
What is the maximum capacity of RAM I can use and which type?
Can I use 2 x 8 GB DDR-2666 MHz or 2 x 16 GB DDR-2666 MHz?
Or should I use 2 x 16 GB DDR-2400 MHz?

You're very welcome.
Your notebook's processor can only run the memory at a max speed of 2400 MHz.
If would buy the DDR4-2666 memory because it normally is less expensive than the DDR4-2400 memory.
The DDR4-2666 MHz memory will automatically bridge to 2400 HMz, like the existing memory bar is doing now.
This should be a compatible 16 GB DDR4-2666 memory bar for your notebook.

Hi:
The official HP specs for the notebooks with the Intel core processors indicate 2 x 8 GB is the max.
Many notebooks with the 8th gen core processors can run 2 x 16 GB of memory, whether or not that is shown in the service manual.
You can always confirm how much memory your notebook can run by doing this...
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thank you very much for the response. The result is 32 GB.
The thing that remains unclear for me is which frequency should I choose. The original RAM has 2666 MHz. Should I select 2 RAM modules with this frequency or should I select lower frequency, e.g. 2400, because of RAM density increase?
