Hi, I have an HP 250 G7 Notebook, SKU 6HM83ES#ABD, which has an M.2 slot with a Samsung PM871b 256 GB M.2 2280 SATA 6.0 Gbps SSD in it (model number MZ-NLN256C).
Now, as I'm running out of disk space, I'd like to replace that with a 500 GB module, but I'm not sure what I can actually replace it with. I saw in the manual that apparently there are configurations of my notebook that come with an NVMe M.2 SSD, which made me wonder whether an NVMe SSD would also be an option for me. Would that work? And would there be a performance advantage over SATA? (Or would it be limited to SATA's maximum throughput?)
Any ideas? Thank you :).

Hi:
Yes, your notebook supports a M.2 SSD.
See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types:
Maintenance and Service Guide HP 250 G7 Notebook PC
I believe your PC's motherboard only runs NVMe SSD's at about 1/2 of their advertised maximum read/write speeds, due to only using two of the four PCI express lanes, but that would still be around 3 times faster than a SATA SSD.
