I found this thread, in which forum expert Huffer shows an M.2 slot and a standoff for a holding screw in the system board overview illustration. Your photos appear to show an M.2 slot in the identical location.
Solved: Install additional SSD into HP 250 G6 - HP Support Community - 7951604
The photos also show that the M.2 slot is B-keyed so only SATA M.2 SSD will fit in. There are many good SATA SSDs. Here are just a couple of them.
This isn't a famous brand but less expensive and still a good one.

Unfortunately, a Samsung PCIe M.2 SSD is not supported.
Your service manual (page 2) indicates your model supports 2.5" HDDs and M.2 SATA SSDs only.
HP 250 G6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
M.2 SATA SSDs are still a lot faster than 2.5" hard drives and provide you a significant performance increase.
If your model came with an Intel Pentium or Celeron processor, I strongly suggest that you open the laptop and verify the presence of an M.2 slot, even though the manual indicates they support an M.2 SATA SSDs. Page 53 of the manual describes how to open the case and install an M.2 drive.
