HP 255 G6
FreeDOS

Hi, looking for some advice here.

I've bought a HP 255 G6 laptop with Freedos. It came with a 1TB HDD.

I know that M.2 SSD's are compatable with this model, but my query is whether the 255 G6 comes with an M.2 slot, allowing me to leave the pre-installed 1TB HDD in place, and install the the M.2 SSD alongside it, or will I need to remove the 1TB HDD, and use an adapter/connector board to install the M.2 SSD into the HDD bay?

The maintenance and service guide for the 255 G6 suggests that there is an M.2 slot for an SSD but I just wanted to verify this. My reason for concern is the HP 250 G6 service guide also says there is an M.2 slot for SSD, but as far as I'm aware that isn't the case.

I'm aware I could remove the back cover and check, but hoping for confirmation before i do so.

Thanks in advance.

@Mike2807

From page 1 of its manual, the series supports

  • 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.2-mm (.28-in) thicknesses
  • M.2 SATA SSD

That means you can add M.2 SATA SSD to your machine, no need to remove existing HDD.

Updated: You may have to buy the following parts to be able to install M.2 SSD.

Solid-state drive board 924992-001
Solid-state drive bracket 924981-001

Regards.

Following your advice, I have removed the case but see nowhere that the M.2 SSD would install. I contacted Crucial too, and they have also said it can be installed without removing the existing HDD.
