HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (1W9Z6AV)

Hi there,

I would like to upgrade my HDD to SSD for my HPP 255 G8 laptop. Are there perhaps any suggestions on which SSD to get for my specific laptop?

Thanks

Hi:

Since your notebook has support for a M.2 NVMe SSD, I recommend a Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe in a storage capacity that meets your needs and budget.

This is the 1 TB model for example.

Amazon.com: SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280, Internal Solid State Drive, Storage for P...

Below is the link to the service manual:

Maintenance and Service Guide

If you want to retain the 2.5" mechanical hard drive, you can only use it for storage only which means you will have to remove Windows from the drive, or the notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the SSD.

Your other option would be to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD, but NVMe SSD's are much faster than SATA SSDs are.
