HP 630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear HP Support Community,

I am reaching out to seek information regarding the possibility of upgrading the processor in my HP 630 laptop. The laptop is currently equipped with the Hewlett-Packard 3672 23.48s motherboard, featuring an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU B800. The BIOS version is F.32, dated 7th November 2011, with a potential upgrade to F.39 Rev.A released on December 13, 2013.

Firstly, I would like to inquire whether it is feasible to upgrade the processor on this laptop, given the specifications mentioned above. If so, could you please provide recommendations for the best processors that would ensure optimal performance and efficiency?

Additionally, I noticed that on the official HP software and drivers page, when selecting the operating system, only Windows XP and Windows 7 are listed. As I am currently using Windows 10, I would like to know if it is possible to select Windows 7 and still download the latest BIOS update (F.39 Rev.A) compatible with my system.

Thank you for your time and support.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

c02834036.pdf (hp.com)

Chapter 1 pages 2 & 3 have the list of supported Intel processors.

Your notebook's Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU B800 processor is a member of the Intel Sandy Bridge processor family.

Intel® Celeron® Processor B800

That means you should be able to upgrade the processor to any of the other Sandy Bridge processors listed in the manual, the best one being the Intel® Dual Core i5-2540M.

Intel® Core™ i5-2540M Processor

Here is the side-by-side comparison of your notebook's processor and the i5-2540M:

In regard to updating the BIOS when running an unsupported operating system:

The chances of someone having successfully done that on a HP 630 notebook and reads your post are 1 in 1000.

You will have to take your chances with such a risk if no one can confirm that it is 100% guaranteed to work.

Hopefully it will work fine.
