HP 840 G1 appears dead

I have an 840 g1 which worked fine one day and woke up dead the next. Pressing the power gets a couple seconds of illumination in the button, but no reaction at all from the PC.  No fan, no video, nada.   I have pulled and replaced battery, ran, HDD and wireless card with no change. 

I saw in a Youtube video a comment about a fuse on the mobo??

I'm looking for some troubleshooting or diagnostic suggestions. I have no issues stripping this down to repair.

No Power, No Boot, No Display When Power Button Is Pressed



NOTE: Be sure the battery is installed in the computer and it has sufficient power before continuing. Due to the design of the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller, the power supply must be disconnected and the computer must be powered with battery power to reset the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.

Unplug the AC power from the computer.
Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
The computer will power on and should boot normally after releasing the power button.
Re-connect the AC power to the computer.

NOTE: In case the battery is not charging after performing the steps to reset the Embedded Controller, unplug and re-plug in the AC power again.

Thank you for the suggestion. 

I tried this with no HDD and get the same results as before. I assume this does not really matter.  I would expect I should be able to get to BIOS.

FWIW it's about 8-10 seconds of the power button illuminated and then the caps lock flashes and the unit turns off.
