Dear HP and HP forum members,

 

I'm currently rocking an HP EliteBook 8560w with a core i7-2620M @ 2.70Ghz.

I want to change the top

 I want your suggestions for a higher  than this

I would like to hear your advice!

Here is the Service Manual:

See p. 24 system boards. There are different boards for dual and Quad Core proceessors. 

 

The i7-2640M is the only dual core on the list that is faster than what you have, and by .1 ghz only. And it has less L2 cache so likely about a push with your processor. 

 

If you replace the motherboard you can install as high as a i7-2860QM which is a 2.5 gz Quad Core. 

 

Unless you are doing computing that can use more than 2 cores (e.g. Photoshop) you would not notice a lot of difference. 

 

Best performance upgrade is to max the memory and install a solid state drive. That model can also take an MXM dedicated video card that can be upgraded. They are very nice machines.
