Envy x360 bq0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought Envy x360 bq0xx, then I bought and tried both HP Active Pen J4R51AA#ABL (returned) and HP Stylus Pen -1MR94AA#ABL in Windows 10; they never show off in Windows 10 bluetooth device pairing.

I searched youtube HP envy/spectre converitble laptop HP active pen pairing, it seems easy and straight-forward. I searched HP forum, people sugguest to update BIOS firmware to enable HP pen pairing. My HP envy firmware seems update-to-date; it is AMD cpu with 32GB ddr I boufht from newegg. both Newegg and BestBuy webiste suggest to buy  1MR94AA#AB pen for this notebook.

Any one has luck to get these 2 gears connected?

Thank you very much for help!

Your model uses HP Pen -1MR94AA#ABL :

http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-pen

The pen does not connect through bluetooth. It works with the digitizer built in the screen. Bluetooth is turned off on my Spectre and the pen works. To activate it just press tip on screen when you are in Windows Ink or other compatible program. I use mine in Windows Ink and Evernote.

Great thanks for your quick reply and guidance.

Just follow your steps and tried again, it still does not work.

Also downloaded and installed HP Pen Control sw; it shows the 2 pen buttons feature configure options for the exact pen model I bought. It does not do any enable pen driver things...

I watched on Youtube how this pen works fine with Spectre and (maybe) Envy x360 intel CPU-based machines - the models released earlier on?).

I doubt that the Envy x360 bq0xx (AMD cpu - a new product show Born On Date - 09/06/2017) is not fully tested to work with HP Pen 1MR94AA#ABL - I tapped and press tip again and again, it gets no response from Windows 10 sketchpad and any other ink sw.

my BIOS firmware version is F.04. - even BIOS configure screen is finger touchable, and HP Pen does not work for BIOS either....

Hope you will also try a bq0xx laptop as well if you can find one.

Thanks again,

Your Envy is on the  Stylus compatibilty list for HP machines:

If HP Pen isn't working you may have a fault in digitizer or the Pen may have arrived with faulty battery. If replacing the battery doesn't help you may want to contact HP to inquire about digitizer.

Please post "full" Model or Product number of your Envy.Easiest way to get that info- minimize all open windows so you can see desktop screen. Next hold the fn key and press esc key.

Hello CherylG,

This is a brand new computer I bought less in a month and half. I can use my fingers in passive mode to do all the touching work in Windows 10. I believe the digitizer and screen should be fine and working. I got new HP Active Pen  1MR94AA#ABL 2 days ago; hope battery should be in good shape from unbox the pen package. I can see the pen power on when tap/tip on the screen - some rippler bounce back on screen with battery, no response at all when taking away the battery from pen. I could not find 2nd aaaa battery from store.

Here is my computer product number I got from pressing - fn+esc

Product name : HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-bq0xx

      Product number : 1KS89UA#ABA

      BIOS : F.04-07/12/2017

I hope the HP Active Pen is going to work easily and smoothly.

Once again, thank you very much for your great help.

From the Product ID your model is ENVY x360 - 15-bq051nr. I checked your Support page to see if perhaps there was a firmware update for display. You also have latest BIOS:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-15-bq000-x360-convertible-pc/15551149/model...

I am pretty much at a loss for other suggestions. The HP Pen worked out of the box for me on the Spectre X360 13-acoxx I am testing. Contact HP chat or phone assistance on Monday.Use your Serial number to connect-it is found by fn + esc also:

Hello CherylG and Banhien,

I have open an HP chat support session - this is what I get - They asks me to use Passive Pen instead; HP will not support its own HP active pen on its own HP touchscreen Laptop?

I fully appreciate your help!!

Thank both of you again,

Tom

Answer - As I have checked the details that the stylus is not working so you can use a passive stylus with it and also as you have bought it from Walmart. Also we are not expertise with the stylus support. In that case we suggest you to contact our HP shopping team for the details.

I have an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Signature edition that includes tablet mode. The touch screen works well with my finger, but will not accept drawing using my brand new HP passive stylus/pen (1MR94AA#ABL).  As I understand it, this is a passive device, so does not require bluetooth software. Please advise.

@Neal29650

For Passive pen, this is a hit and miss businness. Let me tell you my REAL story: I bought 2 Dell  Inspiron 13 2-in-1 machines within 6 months.

The first one with a passive pen included  which is simply a plastic stick, machine even it has a slot to store that pen.  My daughter likes it therefore I bought the second one for her mum and did not check properly, thinking they are the same.

The second one does not have a passive pen included. I bought a very close to it in Tokyo for my wife. Guess what, it does not work. I "borrow" my daughter's pen but it ALSO does not work.

My conclusion: not all touchscreens support stylus (active nor passive). I bought many Passive styluses to use on my tablets, my phones. They only save my fingers, they can't draw.

Regards.
