Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC - HP BD ROM BC 5541h stopped seeing any discs after windows 10 upgrade & driver pg says no drivers or software available.  Device manager says device is working properly yet it cannot see or recognize any disc that is put in it.  the driver listed in the device mgr says it is a Microsoft driver ver. 10.0.18362.1 from 6-21-2006. update says its the latest driver available. I find that very hard to believe.

please advise

thank you

Well optical drive drivers don't work quite like other devices. They are provided within the native Code of the OS and not added in like say a wireless or video card driver, so Windows 10 is likely using the same driver Code found in Vista or even XP for the BD drive.

If you want to make sure the problem is not software but hardware try a bootable optical disk like a Windows OS install disk and see if you can get the laptop to boot from it. That happens or not before Windows loads so if you can boot from the disk then we know the drive is OK and the problem is within Windows. Preferably it would be a Windows 10 install disk just to avoid any secure/legacy/UEFI boot issues. If it will not boot from a known good bootable disk, you have a bad optical drive and it needs to be replaced. If it will we have more work to do.
