Chrome OS

My son has dropped his Chromebook 14 a few times but it always came back up - until now.  chromebook 14 ca061dx
ProdID 3JQ73UA#ABA .  I confirmed that it is out of warranty.  I cannot power it on and the charging light does not come on.   I tried leaving the charger on for over 24 hours, I tried the refesh button/power button.  I did notice that the first day that it failed to power on, a dim light at the USB port would appear for a second when I hit the refresh and power button.  But now that doesn't even flash.   I have replaced the charger adapter and the battery to no avail.  1.  Is there a power module(?) that I can replace (like in the HP notebooks)?  or something like it?  2.  If I cannot get it to power on and buy another chromebook, can I replace the drive from the faulty chromebook?  Or is there some other way to piggyback the data?

@AtWitsPau, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Do you hear the fans running when the power button is used to turn on the device? if yes, click here to troubleshoot

If not, try the below steps:

Step 1: Remove external devices

If the Chromebook does not start, remove any USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices including external hard drives and other similar devices.

After you have removed all external devices, turn on the Chromebook.

  • If the computer starts, reconnect devices one at a time, and restart the Chromebook each time you connect another device to figure out which device is causing the problem. You are done.

  • If the unit still does not start or exhibits the same problem, go to the next step to perform a hard reset.

Step 2: Perform a hard reset

A hard or forced reset erases all information in the computer memory. This forces the system to clear and reestablish the software connections between the BIOS and the hardware.

A hard reset does not remove any local files or settings.

  1. Press the power button  and refresh  button for five seconds. The computer turns off, and then turns on again.

  2. If necessary, press power button again to turn on the laptop.

  3. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

There is no hard drive in a Chromebook.  There are memory chips that are integrated (soldered) into the system board. There is no means of transferring data.  A Chromebook is, to put it simply, a browser that looks like a notebook.

If you plan on using a Chromebook again, I suggest using an external hard disk, cloud storage or an SD memory card.

That will give you a physical or cloud storage space where your data will continue to exist if you save it.

Dropping the Chromebook a number of times is pretty much the kiss of death to any notebook.
