HP Chromebook x360 - 12b-ca0001tu
Chrome OS

My HP Chromebook x360 12b is less than 2 years old.  It won't start, there is no sign of life, power lights don't come on when charging.  I checked the charger on a PC it is working OK.   I worked through this knowledge base document, and a hard reset did not help.

Although I think the position of the power button on my unit (on the side, with the power light included) may be a hindrance in a hard reset.

Anyway, the conclusion is my unit has a problem that needs to be referred back to HP/Professional techs.  My question is has anybody got a similar Chromebook to start working again from this point, either by replacing parts or some other magic by tech pros at HP or elsewhere?  I'd like to know that there was at least some hope before spending more money.

Hi @Nix789

Welcome to the HP Support Community. From what I have understood, you are not able to start your HP Chromebook X360 - 12b-Ca0001tu. Do not worry, we are here to help you with it.

I appreciate you performing the steps from the link you shared. May I know if you tried verifying battery status to see if there is any difference?

The Chromebook not charging might indicate that the battery is in a deep discharge state. Though the battery indicator light is off, a smaller than normal charge current is being sent. Charge the laptop for at least 10 minutes, or for up to 24 hours.

Computer powers on: Check if the battery is charging in the lower right status area of the screen.

If the Chromebook turns on: It is performing normally. Leave the laptop connected to the charger until it is fully charged.

If the Chromebook won’t turn on: Periodically press the power button. In some cases, it can take up to 24 hours for the battery to charge.

Chromebook won't turn on: Check the battery indicator light above the charging port on the laptop.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

No this was not helpful.  I had already checked the battery status and left the power cable plugged in overnight.

Since my initial post, the retailer has accepted the Chromebook back as a warranty claim.
