Hello everyone

i just read a few posts about upgrading the old HP Compaq 6730B that i also have.

I still use it for university research but it kind of old and has a tendency to freeze despite running Lubuntu

I was wondering about upgrading it : i read about the ram / the ssd hard drive stuff and all

It's seems quite simple to process.

But then i found things about changing the CPU. Seems fun to do and that hard. But (there's a but indeed) how to pick the new CPU. I read old post and i found something about the T9400 that worked. Is it possible to implement some newer stuff ? if so how would i pick it ? i was wondering about the T9900. But why would i have to consider old things ? is it some kind of material incompatibility ? I could change other things if needed except the mother board.

Can't wait to read your answers !

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the T9600 processor is supported in the model series.

The notebook will support 2 x 4 GB of DDR2-6400 MHz memory, but you may find that to be expensive.

The next notebook up from your model was the Elitebook 6930p and chapter 1 of that service manual indicates that the T9900 processor was supported in that model series.

So theoretically, the T9900 should work in your notebook too, but I cannot 100% guarantee it will.

Maybe it was just a marketing thing to force folks to buy the more upscale Elitebook if they wanted some better processors.

Thanks

so i really need to pick old cpu ?

Would the T9600 or T9900 really improve the way it works ?

You're very welcome.

Yes, you can only run Intel Core 2 Duo Pentium processors that work with the Mobile Intel GM45 chipset, which are the ones in the service manuals for both notebooks.

Intel 1st generation core and newer processors are not supported.

What model processor does your notebook have installed now?
