So I own an hp Compaq 8710p and I have a problem with the screen and If I connect an external screen on the vga port, the laptop screen suddenly comes back alive.After disconnection the screen everything keeps working. First the laptop came whit window xp I upgraded till windows 10 and I decided to get the HDD from the laptop and fully erased it. I wanted to make it to test the penetration of my router and not when I inserted back the HDD and wanted to started it up it doesn't show anything... I tried to connect the VGA again but whit an adapter to hdmi and still nothing I tried directly hdmi to hdmi and still nothing please help I tried everything...

When a version of Windows is installed to an older laptop that has no driver support for it, there will always be something that does not work as it did before.

 

I suggest sourcing a newer generation laptop.

 

Your Compaq 8710p does not support modern hardware and there is no fix or solution for that.

 

There is nothing you can do to force it to support modern hardware.

 

It was manufactured before the HDMI specification was written.

 

The Compaq 8710p has only analog video output.
