Hello dear Sirs! Please help me in my question. I know that maximum RAM that I can put to this laptop is 2GB. The original RAM size was 256 MB, and I have already added 500 MB some years ago (and that's why now RAM is 756 MB). There are two type of ddr2 (as far as I know - this is the type of RAM on this laptop) RAM in our shop: 1GB or 2 GB. And there's my question: what can I do? Can I add 2 GB? And then the total(summary) RAM will be 2,25 GB, it is more that 2 GB (maximum RAM size) ( and that's why I suppose I can't add 2 GB. Or I am wrong?)
And the next (general) question: can I add 1GB to 756 Mb (today RAM size) so as to the summary RAM is 1,75 GB? Is it possible to combine two types of RAM (500 MB and 1GB) in one laptop??? Thanks in advance!!!

You're very welcome.
It's not that hard to do if you or a friend want to add the memory yourselves.
There is one slot in a compartment under the notebook, and one slot under the keyboard (2 slots in total).
Here is the link to the service manual, which will give you the information on how to install the memory.

See page, 6-12 and page 6-34 for how to access both memory module areas.

Hi;
You can put a maximum of 1 GB in each slot.
You can mix the memory any way less than that but mismatched memory will only run at the single data rate (SDR) mode, not the dual data rate (DDR) mode, which is how it would run with 2 x 1 GB.

Thank you very much for your answer!
"You can put a maximum of 1 GB in each slot." - tell me please, how can I find out - how many slots in this laptop (HP Compaq nx6110). The problem is that I can't myself dismantle this laptop and men from HP support service in my country can't answer this question by phone (they say that only specialist from service can answer the question about upgrading RAM in this laptop - when he dismantle this laptop) (The only information that they give me is about type of RAM - ddr2) But it costs a lot (to give this laptop to the computer repair service) and it's a big problem for me now ... It would be more convenient for me if I have a concrete information about the RAM size which I should buy at computer store. (So my question is - may be you know, how many slots in this laptop?)

Thank you again for your clear detailed answer!!! Now all is clear even for me! Thank you for this detailed manual! I hope I'll be able to upgrade RAM (but may be I'll come for help here again). Thank you very much!

Hi:
Your notebook uses DDR2 memory.
You want PC2-4200 (533 MHz) memory for best performance. 1 GB modules.
Something like this...

Hello, thank you very much again for your answer! The problem is that when I was already ready to buy ddr2, the consultant at computer store asked me (by phone) what frequency of the RAM at my laptop, or at least what kind of RAM is on lap top now. I answered that It's Kingston KVR400X64SC3A/512. And tnen the consultant said that it isn't DDR2, it's just DDR. (And memory https://www.dns-shop.ru/product/7ae5d16e4ee53330/operativnaa-pamat-sodimm-patriot-signature-psd22g80... doesn't fit. (and he also said that maximum memory of my type (to my laptop) is 512Mb ) I was suprised because I was sure that there's ddr2 memory in my laptop. I am sorry that I haven't uploaded the photo of this memory before (the point is that it's only 512Mb, and I want to replace it on the1 or 2 GB). Please - according to these phoros - give the examples of RAM (as in your previous message) which must fit at my lap top

Hi:
Very sorry for the incorrect info. My notebook (different model with the same chipset has DDR2 memory).
The nc6120 uses DDR2 memory, so the service manual is not completely correct in that it shows all models listed use DDR2 memory.
You are correct...your notebook uses DDR memory (PC-3200).
You can still get 2 x 1 GB of that memory, as the max shows 2 x 1 GB of DDR memory can be installed.
Here is the link to the quickspecs which shows that your notebook uses DDR memory, not DDR2.
