Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased what I thought was an HP Probook 6550B and looking at the specs it is supposed to have 2 SO-DIMMS with a maximum capacity of 8 GB of ram. When I open the memory compartment I only see one slot which is currently 4 GB. Looking closely at the ID tag on the bottom it says it an HP Delphi D40. Whats the difference and can I put 1 8 GB DIMM in it to increase  the memory? When I look at the properties under Windows 10 it says it's an Probook 6550B.

@Rbaz,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Let's first ascertain how many RAM slots you have, and max RAM capacity.

Type in cmd in your Windows search bar, right-click on the Command Prompt App, left-click on Run as administrator, then click on Yes, then copy/paste/enter:

wmic Memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices

You should see something like this:

Report back with what you got.

When I try to run the CMD command I keep getting the error message "Node - DESKTOP-5529BKH ERROR: Description = Invalid query. If I get on the Crucial Memory site and let it scan it says I have an HP ProBook 6550B with 2 memory slot, each having one 2GB so-dimm and says I can upgrade to two 4GB so-dimms but once again, opening up the memory compartment there is only one slot with one 2GB so-dimm installed which says it's a 2GB.1Rx8.PC3-10600S-9-10-B2.133. When I remove it it looks like the second so-dimm is built in to the board, it can't be removed.

Problem solved: go for 2 x 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 204-pin RAM sticks.

THANKS! I've owned and upgraded memory on several laptops but I've never seen one where the memory was in two different locations. After looking for upgrades, can you tell me whether I need 1.35V or 1.5V memory?

HP Recommended

@Rbaz,

I would go with the lower voltage (1.35V) RAM sticks.
