Hey, I just got a new battery as a backup for my HP Notebook - 15-f272wm, since the battery I'm using for it is an older model on its last legs and the original already died. I got the new battery off Amazon, the next gen version of the original battery but supposed to be compatible according to the listing. I even compared the pics to my current one to make sure it was the same kind of model. It came today, it's a bit heavier and fits a bit different, but fits all the same, so I wasn't too worried.
Until I opened up HP Support Assistant and the battery test said there's no battery. At the same time, however, it says the battery is charging and gives the exact level. So I unplugged the charger and lo and behold, the new battery IS working and is charging. I open up the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics program to see if that can detect the battery and crazy enough it does, saying the battery is completely fine.
So it seems the issue is with HP Support Assistant itself. Honestly it would be far easier if it wasn't and the battery itself was the issue. If the battery was the problem, I could just return it and get a refund. Getting rid of it for such a petty issue seems wasteful, but HP Support Assistant offers so much helpful info about battery life. Does anyone know why HP Support Assistant would fail to recognize the battery when the computer and other HP diagnostic programs do so perfectly fine? And how I might be able to fix it?

I suggest going to the download section of the HP Support Assistant web document and do3wnloading and installing the latest version available there. That may resolve the issue you are experiencing.

Thank you for the answer! However I just reinstalled HPSA like a week ago at most, so when I try to reinstall it says it's up to date and just closes the setup. So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, still having the same issue.
A friend of mine suggested I probably need to calibrate the battery/my RAM, and gave me a 3rd party app to check the battery health in the meantime, and the battery looks all good, so it is probably either the program or the battery needing calibration (whatever that means) to work with the program. Just waiting on a project to finish to try the solutions he recommended, I'll update with what I did if it works.
Thank you for the advice though, even if it didn't work, it's a good idea I didn't think of trying at all!

Update: I tried doing a memory test with the f2 boot menu thing at my friend's direction, tried updating BIOS (my poor eyes), and then tried doing any optional windows updates.
None of those solutions have worked for me unfortunately.
At this point I've given up and submitted to just dealing with 3rd party apps instead. I assume it's probably something wrong with the app, but I've tried everything I can think of with that too, thanks to Erico above.
This will probably be my last post on the topic unless my friend prods me into trying something else. Probably won't be checking back since the battery works fine otherwise.
Bye!
