HP ENVY 13-ba0010na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I got an HP ENVY 13-ba0010na (I have no idea what its name is) in mid-September 2020. Due to pandemic-related lockdowns, I haven't taken it outside of my house, and I've done my best to treat it with care and caution. However, a month or so after first using it, the hinge somewhat broke: the right side would pop out when opened, and it would stay misaligned when closed - it was twisted counter-clockwise by a couple of degrees. I was able to pop it back in, but every time I opened it again, it popped back out. The plastic strip that, when closed, is on the underside of the hinge had also shifted, leaving a gap about 1-2mm wide at the worst part, though only on the right side.

The hinge was initially very stiff, and required the use of both hands to open it. In the subsequent months, I feel it has loosened - likely compounded by the hinge issue.

Unfortunately, last night, when I closed it, there was a sort of crunching, creaking sound. On opening it again, it made another unpleasant sound. The aforementioned strip is now loose along the entire length of the hinge. The display panel bulges out in the centre of the bottom atop the hinge, and it has popped out on the lower-right corner. The left hinge is also further back than the right hinge when opened.

I haven't taken it apart, but my guess is that something in the hinge mechanism might have snapped at some point in October 2020, but I'm not certain since I have no experience with laptops beyond using them. It's only 4.5 months old at this point, and as I said, it's been treated well, especially in comparison to the laptop I used throughout school - the pandemic has saved it from living in a backpack.

This seems like an entirely mechanical issue. The display still works, the touchscreen still works, and it really everything else also works, just not the hinge and whatever has pushed said display out.

What can I do? I know it needs repairs, but will the warranty cover it? I don't think it's too common of an issue - the only thing I could find on it was an entirely different ENVY model with what appears to be a similar problem - but again, it's not even 5 months old and has been in a safe environment. It worked fine out of the box, so maybe it's an issue on the manufacturer's end? Aside from regular daily use - opening and closing it, and moving around the house with it - it hasn't suffered any drops/bumps.

Please, any help would be very welcome. Thank you.

The pictures have not come through but hinge issues are not something you want to try to tackle with self-help if you are under warranty. And there is not even a certainty that warranty will cover. I will escalate you and see if help arrives from HP. If not we can begin discussing your options which is a difficult discussion.

Thank you! I look forward to seeing their response. I've also reformatted and reuploaded the pictures in .png, so that might help, one way or another.
