HP ENVY 15t-as100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The battery in my HP ENVY 15t-as100 CTO in the last couple months has begun to fail. It discharges from 100% to about 1% over 3 weeks or so while powered off! Note again: While powered off!

And. of course, it began doing this only after the warranty expired.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes you are not the first to notice this. Here are some suggestions from a 3rd party site:

https://windowsreport.com/battery-drain-shutdown/

On laptops with an internal battery there is no CMOS or clock battery so the main battery keeps a very slight trickle of power to the motherboard to keep the time. This accounts for less than 1% per day. If you have usb devices connected or if the laptop appears to be off but is really in a hybrid sleep state (which Windows 10 wants to do by default so it appears to boot up more quickly when you turn it on) you will also lose a bit. As the battery gets older it can go from 1/2% per day to 3 or 4% per day being lost and before you know it you get to the point where its drained after a few weeks of sitting unused.

You should run a full battery diagnostic in HP Support Assistant and report the advanced results back to us.

I was a little worried about Primary_CellVoltage4: 0mV until I remembered it has only 3 cells! <smile>

If it makes any difference, the battery was, perhaps, a third charged when I ran the test.

Following the discussion in your recommended article, I:

- Turned off Connected Standby. (I never purposely enable any kind of sleep mode anywhere.)

- Updated the BIOS from F.56 to F.58revA.

- Turned off fast startup. (I have SSDs, it boots plenty fast enough!)

I performed everything suggested in the referenced article. I delayed my response to see the impact of changes made.

And success!

After two weeks, I turned on my laptop and had 100% remaining in the battery. Thank you for your help.
