HP ENVY - 17-ce1135ng
Ubuntu LTS

Hello and good evening,

first my touchpad didn't function and then the backlight of my keyboard get off. After changing the broken battery (really bad swollen), the touchpad is function! But not the backlight of the keyboard. (I try with the keys - nothing; in BIOS I found nothing too).

Maybe the swollen battery did any damage to the keyboard backlight function.

Perhaps, someone has an idea?

Best regards
Claudia

Hi @Claudia273,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the keyboard backlight on your HP ENVY 17-ce1135ng isn't functioning after replacing a swollen battery, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Check Keyboard Backlight Setting:

  • Use the function key that controls the keyboard backlight (usually a key with an icon resembling a shining light, often found on the F5 or F4 key). Press Fn + that key to attempt turning the backlight on.

Inspect for Loose Connections:

  • Turn off your laptop and inspect the keyboard area to ensure there are no loose connections. You can check whether the backlight flex cables are inserted properly and intact without any visible damage.

BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure your BIOS is up to date, as the issue could potentially be resolved with a BIOS update. To update the BIOS:

    1. Visit the Official HP® Support.

    2. Enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.

  • Update your keyboard and system drivers through Windows Device Manager or using the HP Support Assistant.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
