We would need the precise model or product number of the laptop so we can identify the specific HP Part numbers needed. In 95+% of cases they can be found somewhere. The laptop looks to be of an age where HP will no longer have the parts in the official parts store which is a good thing because they charge an arm and a leg. There are guerilla procurement tactics we can employ to (maybe) find the parts at an affordable price. Maybe not but have to have your exact model number to say and need to know where you live (country).

Thank you for the info. I don't have the model, serial because it is on the bottom of the laptop! Based on your info I will keep letting him look for the parts. He said what you said.
Thank you for answering so quickly!

Hi. Thanks for your help in September. I am embarassed to admit that my computer guy has had my HP ENVY 17 M7-J020DX for 3 months claiming a lot of excuses, I walked in today and he refused to give me any invoice to show h has ordered the palmrest #720271-001. I found 3 on my phone in the parking lot. He now says the part # is 720272-001. Which I found but are they compatible? This guy is completely off his nut, doesn't look right, showed me the base of a refurbished laptop which mine was not.
I want to know if the palmrest # 720271-001 abd 720272-001 are compatible. Please. And thank you, I feel so angry and stupid.

You have a non-touch screen and no Leap Motion right?
So this is it:
For use on HP ENVY TouchSmart 17 Notebook PC computer models and computer models equipped with a non-TouchScreen display assembly, but not equipped with Leap Motion capability 720271-001
Unfortunately, there are a few oddballs in the computer repair business, and more than a few charlatans. Sorry for your troubles.
