HP ENVY Hard Disk replacement

My 7 year old ENVY 15-ae107na (well out of warranty) is reporting hard drive errors - is it possible for me to purchase, fit, and transfer my system over to a replacement drive? No obvious access panels on body underside. Original drive is 1T, HGST model HTS541010A9E680.

You may want to consider replacing the failing mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

I don't know what will happen if you clone the hard drive when it has errors to a new one.

Does it also transfer the bad sectors or what?

If you want to transfer (clone) the drive's contents to a new drive, you can purchase a SATA to USB drive cable.

Plug the new drive into your PC"s USB port and use the cloning software to transfer the drive's contents to the new drive before you replace the drive.

I recommend using Macrium Reflect to clone the drive.

You want the software on the left side of the page under the Backup at Home section.

They recently switched from a completely free version to a 30-day trial version, but it should work fine and then you can uninstall the software if you don't want to purchase it.

You also have the option to clean install W10.

Reinstall W10 by making bootable installation media with the Media creation tool at the link below.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
