I have been trying to configure the thunderbolt 3 ports on this laptop but there is nowhere in the BIOS that shows any settings for them and no evidence in the device manager that these are Thunderbolt 3 ports. The spec says they are as does the symbol next to the port. Although I am running one monitor from one port to displayport , the laptop did not recognise a thunderbolt connection to a docking station.
I have looked everywhere for drivers or some information about how to resolve this issue but found nothing. Any pointers much appreciated.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06665384
It has 2 Thunderbolt™ 3 (40Gbps signaling rate) with SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) ports. What is your dock ? Are they compatible ?
Regards.

I am not sure of the compatibility. There were a lot of HP laptops listed in the compatibility list but not specifically my one.
The dock is a Targus 8k Thunderbolt 3 dock
I was surprised however that plugging in the thunderbolt cable lead to no recognition at all that anything had been connected to the laptop. If there is no compatibility then I will need to return it and look for an alternative.

Final solution was to send the Targus dock back to the seller and replace with an HP Thuinderbolt 120w G2 dock. Plugged both monitors (5120*1440) into respective usb c to DP and worked perfectly.
Only issue I have which may not be solvable is that the USB C cable from the dock does not charge the laptop. Even though the sales specs suggest it should could it be that the power delivery is too low?
