Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone.

My goals are .................

1:  Determine if I can replace my HD with an SSD

2:  If so, what SSD wil fit my notebook ?

3:  Where is the best place to purchase the SSD ?

4:  Figure out how to go about cloning the current HDD to the SSD.

5:  Finally, how do I go about remove the existing HDD and installing the SSD ?

Should I contact HP and simply ask them what SSD I should buy ?

I'm motivated to do this but would really appreciate advise.

Thanks

Yes, go for SSD since they are cheap now

1: Determine if I can replace my HD with an SSD

  •  Yes you can

2: If so, what SSD wil fit my notebook ?

  •  All standard 2.5" SSD's for notebooks will fit because your machine Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses

3: Where is the best place to purchase the SSD ?

  • All good computer stores from every corners will sell 2.5" SSD's

4: Figure out how to go about cloning the current HDD to the SSD.

  • You need software, many free around. You can use 2.5" USB enclosure to clone and swap then use old HDD as an external store/backup.

5: Finally, how do I go about remove the existing HDD and installing the SSD ?

Your last question is similar to Q3 above.

My final suggestion: All standard 2.5" SSD's should work BUT only use products from reliable vendors: Crucial, Samsung, WD (SanDisk), Toshba, HDS  ....Some may have batter products but may not work on your machine.

Regards.
