HP ENVY 15-u010dx x360 Convertible PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
My HP ENVY laptop power button stopped working. After some troubleshooting, I opened up the top of the laptop. It turns out that the power button came off, so pressing the exterior button could not turn my laptop on.

Photo of the detached button: https://ibb.co/d8UPJy
Photo of where it should be: https://ibb.co/dhsByy

If I told it in the position of the second photo and press the button, the laptop starts up as usual.

Is there any adhesive or method to keep the button in place? (Sorry if I did something incorrectly in this post. Please tell me and I'll fix it.)

Hi, thanks for the reply. If I'm understanding correctly, that manual shows to replace the entire power button board. I'm just looking for a way to get the button only to stay in place.

Is this possible, or do I need to get a new one completely? Like I said in the post, my laptop can still turn on and off as usual.

Hi

Maybe re-solder the connection and/or a drop of superglue.

Because if it fails you know that there is an alternative.

I put some superglue on the button and tried to turn on the laptop again after it dried, but now it does not turn on at all.
I may have to replace the power board, or if possible, use something to take off the dried glue and try again. I've heard I shouldn't use acetone, but that's all I know. Are there any other options?

Hi

Sorry, but I dont think so.

I decided to try to scratch off what I assumed was residue from the superglue from the circuit board and button, and now it works! I definitely do not reccomend doing this to anyone, since it has a higher chance of doing harm than good, but it was a last resort for me. I will be turning on the laptop manually with the button for now, until I can get a replacement or repair.

Thanks for all the help!

This obviously is a manufacture defect. I have an HP envy X360 still under the original manufacture warranty and the power button stopped functioning.  I sent the laptop in and it sat for a week without the status being updated to reflect that it wouldn’t be received by the promised date listed on the status site.  My laptop has been gently used in highly cared for an HP is stating that it was consumer negligence and want $609.78 to fix the power button because they have to also replaced the power button board. I purchased the computer for $799.99, so the power button is worth $609.78. The most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. Stand by your product HP. They would be able to tell if they were true customer negligence such as fluid being spilled on it, dropped because other components would obviously break and there would be scratches and dents to the exterior.  This is HP flexing their corporate muscle to screw the honest consumer.  I am completely done with HP products and will return to Apple. Apple is worth the extra costs.
