I have tried unsucsessfully to upgrade my HP ENVY X2 11 (DETATCHABLE) I keep getting an issue or error message that states that an intel processor/ driver code name cloverfield does not support windows 10.
I've researched this issue with you tube, microsoft and even HP SUPPORT and each time i draw a blank, I can find no information whatsoever on this topic or error message.
Does this now mean these devices were only ever intended to run max win 8.1 O/S or can this be upgraded to older versions of windows 10 ie 1511 0r 1607 builds and then upgrade to the more recent build through updates.?
If not, can all drives and partitions be wiped and clean install windows 10 made?.
I have found this is a common problem with these models. These tablet pcs are in effect a very useful tool but if at the end of the day these cannot be brought up to date with the latest operating systems then i may just have to give this
device a fiery funeral as i depend on having the most up to dqte software for my work otherwise it is more of a hindrance than a three legged horse.

Hi! @harveychester, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I understand you have issues upgrading your PC from windows 8 to windows 10 on your PC.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Are you trying to upgrade the windows by using retail Microsoft discs or upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10 from the upgrade from Microsoft?
The main issue in upgrading your PC will be the compatibility of drivers.
Since your laptop was pre-shipped with windows 8 and since you are getting Intel processor driver code name Cloverfield does not support windows 10.
It certainly looks to be the limitation of the processor and other hardware components not matching the requirements to upgrade to windows 10.
However, you can purchase a retail copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft directly or you can buy the retail discs from any of HP authorized service providers.
Or You can download the image and burn it to a disc and install windows 10 from Microsoft using this link.
But you have to purchase the product key from Microsoft.
Also, once you install windows 10 retail copy on your PC. You can try downloading the drivers using HP support assistant.
Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.
Hope this answers your query!

Hi, thanks for your tips.
In answer to the tips you offered, no hardware changes were made I had to recover/reset this device once when the pc crashed for unknown reasons so it reverted back to factory settings (WIN 😎 I did all the updates again and upgraded to 8.1 again.
I've tried to upgrade to win 10 direct from microsoft when i got the error massage towards the end of the media creation,
Even tried indirectly with an ISO IMAGE created on a flash drive from another pc.
There's been an issue with that where it's successfully done the upgrade, however, after doing all the updates and rebooting i intermittently get another error message stating an error has occurred, we're just collecting the details for you and will automatically restart but doesn't, i have to force the restart where the error message disappears again.
I hope there's some info that might shed some light on the issue i'm facing.

I have found a solution regarding the windows 10 compatability issue and while it was no easy task It seems to have paid off.
Regarding your last reply stating that the hp wasn't compatible i did some further research not quite willing to accept that answer quite yet.
Firstly i looked into microsofts own support network and checked all the forums with little to go on so i devised a method myself and this is what i did to solve the matter.
What i will state is that at present i have not dared to upgrade to the latest widows 10 (1703) but in brief this is how i got round the compatability issue.
1 i downloaded an older ISO Image notably the oldest version of windows 10 (1511 the very first release build version) onto a flash drive and clean installed that to the HP device.
Although it took nearly half a day to do it proved successful. Once everything was installed and went through the configuation process i set up the system as you would a new win 10 device, after completion checked for installed and configured all updates relevent, then the HP updated and configured the next win 10 build (1607) automatically
Everything is now running smoothly on windows 10 and hopefully all the updates needed will eventually present themselves to be able to upgrade to the latest build (1703) The achievement for now though is proving that windows 10 is compatible if you install the very first build then carry out all the updates i order.
Anyway it's been a success and hope anyone can similar issues by taking some of this info on board and trying it for themselves.
