HP ENVY dv6t-7300 CTO Quad Edi
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the HP ENVY dv6t-7300 CTO Quad Edition Notebook PC  that came with windows 8 ..since then I upgraded to windows 10 64 bit home edition.  My USB ports keep turning on and off and all the websites suggest updating my bios.  Current bios is "Insyde F.28 from 7/25/2013"  but when I go to the HP help site for drivers it only lists the windows 8 and windows 8.1 versions for bios updates.

is there a more current BIOS available and how do I download it?

Try the BIOS flash first...It has some chance of correcting the problem. My next troubleshooting would be the chipset driver. And it could not hurt to do the UEFI diagnostic (F2 as you power up or esc + f2) and run the diagnostic routine on the usb ports one by one. It is going to ask you to insert a thumb drive in each one for testing. We can then figure out if it is a hardware problem.

BIOS are OS independent.  You can use the BIOS flashes posted under Windows 8 under Windows 10. The latest BIOS is F.2E from September, 2016 which is said to improve UEFI function...something you should certainly do.

Whether this will fix your USB ports I don't know. "Upgrade the BIOS" is kind of a last resort piece of advice given by someone who wants to sound knowledgeable.

Let us know how this works for you.

Thanks for the download.  Before I try it can you offer any other suggestions to trouble shoot why my items connected via USB keep stopping and starting?  It happens to both my mouse and when I have my iphone plugged in.  no matter what usb port I use.
