HP ENVY x360 - 15-aq002ur (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade my HP ENVY x360 - 15-aq002ur.

Currently it has 8 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB). What is a maximum memory size I can have? And efficient frequency?

Also I'd like to add SSD but I'm not sure it has a capable slot. Initially it has 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA installed.

I saw comments where somebody installed smth like Samsung 980 M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 into a similar laptop but I'm not sure if it will work with mine.

Does it have a slot for SSD and what is its type?

Thank you in advance

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

HP Envy x360 m6 Convertible PC (model numbers m6-aq1XX and m6-aq0XX) Maintenance and Service GuideIM...

Chapter 1 has the supported drive types and memory upgrade info.

The fastest speed your notebook's processor can run the memory at is 2133 MHz, so DDR4-2400 memory will run at 2133 MHz.

DDR4-2400 or 2666 MHz will probably be easier and cheaper to find than DDR4-2133 MHz memory.

Your notebook can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

As far as a M.2 SATA SSD...it does not look like your notebook's model series has a M,2 slot.

If you look at chapter 1, pages 2 & 3, there is no check mark next to the M.2 drive option for the 15-aq0xx model series, just the 15-aq1xx model series.

So, you can either open up the notebook and check to see if there is a M.2 slot available for a SATA SSD, or do the sure thing and replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.

A SATA M.2 or SATA 2.5" SSD would have exactly the same performance out of the same brand and model SSD.

You're very welcome.

By the way, on the page 3 in the Storage section it says:

Solid-state drives: Support for: 256-MB, M2.2280, solid-state drive supporting triple-level cell (TLC)

And that is confirmed on the page 38:

256-MB, M2.2280, solid-state drive supporting TLC for use on all computer models.

Looks like good news. Anyway it makes sense to check under bottom cover 🙂

Hopefully your notebook has a M.2 slot.

Just make sure that if it does, you buy a SATA M.2 SSD, not NVMe.

All the M.2 slots on HP notebook and desktop PC's look like they will support a NVMe SSD (they only have one key), but you have to read the service manuals to see what type of M.2 SSD is supported.

I removed the bottom cover but cannot find the desired ssd slot. I suspect it is absent in this model..

Could you help me please?

Hi:

I agree.  I guess the service manual was correct.  No M.2 slot.  I don't see one either.
