15-aq273cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I see conflicting information how much memory my laptop should have, how much my laptop actually has, and on how much memory I can add/upgrade.

Product#: X7U54UA#aba

Model#: 15-aq273cl

Per the manual It comes with this: 12 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (4 GB (onboard) and 8 GB (1 x 8 GB))

However, when I look at the system info , Task Manager (screenshot attached), or Speccy I only see 8GB of Memory.  What gives?

Next: What is the maximum memory configuration for this laptop on Win 10 64bit?

In the memory module section (page 5) of the Maintenance and Service Guide it says:

Two SODIMM slots, non-accessible/non-upgradeableSupport for DDR4 2400 dual channelSupport for up to 16-GB maximum system memory in the following configurations:16384-MB: (8192-MB × 2)12288-MB: (8192-MB + 4096-MB)8192-MB: (8192-MB × 1)8192-MB: (4096-MB

Why does it say "non-accessible/non-upgradeable" and why does it say max of 16GB?

Conflicting 3rd Party Resources:

When I run the HP Support Assistant's Operating System Check it says maximum capacity is 32 GB (See attached image).

So, can I insert 2 - 16GB sticks in the 2 slots and get 32GB of RAM?

I haven't been able to open it up yet because I didn't have a T5 driver (ordered one).  Maintenance manual incorrectly states Phillips.

Well, I just opened it up and put 32GB of RAM (2 - 16GB DDR4 sticks) in and it booted right up.

When I opened it up it had one slot empty, and 1 slot with 8GB.  I didn't see anything that looked like 4GB soldered.

Speccy and Task Manager both show 32GB of RAM available.   I just wish that someone could have told me before I took the risk.

I still don't know where the 4GB onboard is and why this was sold as 12GB RAM.

The private message was a waste of my time.  First response provided the manual that I already included in my original post.  Subsequent interactions just provided me links to paid support since I am out of warranty.  This is a question for clarity that should made public to everyone who owns this model.  There are several inaccuracies in the provided documentation for this model, and I would like explanation and clarification.

Why don't I see 12GB RAM when I look at my system through Task Manager? I only see 8GB RAM.

What is the maximum RAM configuration I can install in this laptop?
